KOTA KINABALU – The National Registration Department (NRD) will conduct checks to ensure those with dual citizenship or fake MyKad do not vote in tomorrow’s Sabah elections.

Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the department will assist the Election Commission (EC) in the matter, following police’s warning that there might be attempts to sway the polls outcome.

“We have opened six operations centres in Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Keningau, Sandakan and Kota Marudu where the EC can refer directly to the NRD on dubious MyKad or those with dual citizenship,” he told a press conference at the state NRD office in Jalan Sulaman, here, yesterday.

He vowed no compromise with those found to be in possession of fake MyKad.

On people with dual citizenship, he said they have lost their right to vote.

“We are looking at this matter seriously following Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali’s warning that groups from neighbouring countries are planning to enter Sabah in big numbers to disrupt the election process.”

He said NRD has yet to receive reports on individuals with fake MyKad or dual citizenship planning to vote. – The Vibes, September 25, 2020
