KUALA LUMPUR – With more than 13,000 learning materials available, former education minister Maszlee Malik’s new and free learning platform is open to the public.
Named Sophia.my, teachers and students only need to register and verify their emails to access the materials.
In a Facebook post today, the Simpang Renggam MP said that with schools being closed, it is an opportunity to reimagine the nation’s education system.
Sophia.my allows teachers and students to engage in discussions over the relevant subject matter being taught.
Among the subjects available on the platform are Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science, Health and so on, covering primary and secondary levels.
During a press conference on December 16, Maszlee had highlighted the issue of a “lost generation” of students caused by the pandemic.
He highlighted that those entering Primary 1 and 2 would be seriously left behind given they had not been attending school for almost one year.
He also urged the Perikatan Nasional to come up with a solution.
Maszlee was not the only politician who highlighted the plight of Malaysian students during the pandemic.
During the last parliamentary session, Maszlee’s former deputy minister Teo Nie Ching said 37% of students lack equipment for digital learning.
She added that alternative television education was below par, given that these programmes provide minimal airtime for specific subjects. – The Vibes, January 2, 2021
