"I WANT justice for my husband and children. I don't want this case to just go away. My family and I really hope that stricter punishments are imposed on drunk drivers to prevent similar incidents from happening again."
"The current laws are not enough to replace my husband's life," said Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, after her husband, Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, died when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver, in an incident on Jalan Raya Barat in Klang, yesterday.
Nor Nadia also said she plans to take legal action against the parties involved and has already hired a lawyer, according to reports in Berita Harian.
She said the incident occurred when her husband was on his way to buy their children's school books.
She said that her husband left the house at around 10 am to go to Section 19, Shah Alam, to buy a Maths book for his eldest child, who was about to start school.
"He said he wanted to go buy a Maths book for his son because he had been planning to buy one for his school for a few days.
"The last time we were in contact was a few minutes before 11 am when he sent a message asking about some documents. At 11 am, he sent a message saying that something had arrived, and after that, I couldn't contact him anymore," she said when met by the media at the family's residence in Kampung Repoh, Batu Kurau.
Nor Nadia said that shortly after, she received a call from a traffic policeman informing her that her husband had been involved in an accident.
"I thought the call was a scam, but when he mentioned my husband's name, I immediately felt uneasy.
"He told me my husband was gone (dead), and at that time I really couldn't accept it, my heart was broken," she said.
Nor Nadia said that now she has to be strong to raise three children aged two to nine who still don't understand the loss of their father.
"My children think their father is sick; they don't understand. I have to be strong for them," he said.
The victim's body was buried last night at the Kampung Repoh Cemetery.
In the incident at about 11.40 am, Amirul Hafiz died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car on Jalan Raya Barat, Klang.
South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, reportedly said initial investigations found that the Honda City was being driven by a man in his 20s from Jalan Raya Barat towards Klang town recklessly and at high speed.
Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, the driver is believed to have overtaken several vehicles before entering the opposite lane and hitting a motorcycle. The impact of the collision caused the victim to be thrown onto a Perodua Myvi before being confirmed dead at the scene.
A screening test on the suspect found that the man tested positive for alcohol and drugs. The driver involved is now being remanded for four days to assist in the investigation. – March 30, 2026
