THE National Registration Department (NRD) and the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) are ready for the official launch of the new MyKad and passports this June.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that all aspects, including the system, infrastructure and agency preparations, have been carefully planned to ensure the smooth implementation.

"Every period, we have to issue new documents with better security features. We have been working towards that for a long time, and now the time has come.

"I am highly confident that we will be able to overcome this historic moment well," he said at the Home Ministry's (KDN) Monthly Assembly today.

He said that the implementation reflects  KDN's commitment to strengthening the official identification document system in line with current technological developments.

Previously, Saifuddin said the new documents will be equipped with sophisticated and smart features to increase security and efficiency.

At the same time, he also informed that the new citizenship application management system is also in the final phase and will be launched in the near future.

Also present at the ceremony was the Secretary-General of the Home Ministry, Datuk Awang Alik Jeman. – May 4, 2026
