POLICE detained a red Mitsubishi Triton 4WD driver who drove in reverse along the North - South Expressway near Seberang Jaya in Penang, and also crashed into several vehicles during peak hours yesterday.
With the help of motorists and passers-by, police detained the 29-year old driver who later underwent a urine test to determine if he was on drugs.
The suspect has since tested positive for methamphetamine and morphine, and has 15 prior drug-related offences and two criminal offences, said Bukit Mertajam district police chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah.
Police praised the passers-by, who helped apprehend the driver near the petrol kiosk at the expressway roundabout in Seberang Jaya.
Nik Aminuddin said that there was a sling bag on the suspect, and checks revealed that the contents were narcotics.
The driver would be investigated under Section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and under the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence of drugs.
Police are now tracking the owners of vehicles damaged by the suspect near the Seberang Jaya area, said Nik Aminuddin. - June 9, 2026.
