Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency and the Ministry of Finance have reinforced their commitment to tackling financial misconduct - June 10, 2026

EFFORTS to strengthen Malaysia’s fight against corruption and financial leakages have received a fresh boost following a high-level meeting between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF), signalling a renewed focus on high-profile investigations and asset recovery initiatives.

The strategic engagement brought together MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman and Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican, as both sides sought to enhance cooperation in safeguarding the country's economic interests and public finances.

The nearly hour-long meeting served as a key platform for discussions on strengthening institutional collaboration, particularly in managing complex and high-profile cases that require coordinated action across multiple agencies.

In a statement, Abd Halim said both organisations reviewed ongoing mechanisms and explored the role of special task forces and dedicated committees established to address emerging priorities and evolving investigative requirements.

The discussions centred on ensuring that investigations, enforcement actions and asset recovery processes could be carried out more effectively through closer coordination and the mobilisation of specialised resources.

"In the effort to ensure that investigations and asset recovery are carried out more comprehensively, discussions focused on the special task forces and special committees established specifically to handle such cases.

"MACC also expressed its readiness to provide full cooperation and comprehensive assistance from the legal, enforcement and technical aspects in order to resolve related cases down to their roots," he said.

The meeting underscored the growing emphasis on inter-agency collaboration as authorities seek to improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures, strengthen governance standards and prevent losses to public funds.

Both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating abuse of power, misappropriation and financial leakages, viewing such efforts as essential to preserving Malaysia’s economic sovereignty and maintaining public confidence in government institutions.

The courtesy visit concluded with the exchange of commemorative gifts, symbolising the strengthening strategic partnership between the MACC and the Ministry of Finance as they intensify efforts to combat corruption and enhance financial accountability across the public sector. - June 10, 2026
