NEGERI Sembilan Menteri Besar’s press secretary, Ahmad Shahir Mohd Shah, has issued an apology to the Undang Yang Empat following his use of a traditional title during a recent political event.

In a statement today, Ahmad Shahir said he deeply regretted invoking the title linked to the Undang institution while joking with DAP secretary-general and Seremban MP Anthony Loke at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Negeri Sembilan machinery launch last Friday.

“As a son of Negeri Sembilan who upholds the state’s customs, culture and the Undang institution.”

“I take the use of the title ‘Dato’ Undang’ seriously, as it involves sensitivities tied to the Adat Perpatih institution that must be respected by all, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

“I begin with an apology to the Undang Yang Empat for my actions in joking with Anthony Loke by referring to a title used for him on social media as ‘Tok Undang’.”

He acknowledged the lapse and expressed hope that the apology would help ease tensions.

“Over this mistake, I am remorseful and hope this issue will help clear the air,” he added.

Ahmad Shahir stressed that PH remains committed to respecting and defending the dignity of the Undang institution, describing it as a valuable heritage and a source of pride for Negeri Sembilan. – June 15, 2026
