A MAN was apprehended by members of the public after he was allegedly caught secretly photographing or recording a woman inside the toilet of a restaurant in the Sarawak township of Bekenu, prompting a police investigation into the suspected invasion of privacy.

The incident came to light after the woman reportedly noticed the alleged act while she was inside the toilet of the eatery. She immediately alerted members of the public at the premises, leading several bystanders to intervene.

The suspect was subsequently restrained at the scene before being handed over to police officers for further action.

He was later taken to the Bekenu Police Station to assist investigators in connection with the incident.

According to a source, a police report has since been lodged at the Miri District Police Headquarters, paving the way for a formal investigation into the alleged offence.

The case has also attracted widespread attention on social media after photographs and information relating to the suspect's detention were circulated by Facebook users.

Police have not yet released an official statement on the case or disclosed the potential offences being investigated. - June 20, 2026
