A LOCAL male teacher has been brought before the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court today to face two separate charges of committing physical sexual assault against his former 13-year-old male student earlier this month.

The accused, Muhammad Izzudin Mohmad Asari, aged 31, entered a plea of not guilty immediately after both charges were read out to him before Judge Mohd. Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli.

According to the details of the charges, Muhammad Izzudin allegedly perpetrated the physical sexual assault against the victim, a teenage boy aged 13 years and one month. The illicit acts were reportedly committed by the accused at a hotel located along Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin here at approximately 8am on June 4.

The prosecution has preferred charges against him under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 as well as Section 14(d) of the same legislation. Under these statutory provisions, Muhammad Izzudin faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction.

This court appearance follows reports by Kosmo! Online on June 15, which stated that a male teacher had been apprehended to facilitate investigations into allegations of sexual assault involving a form one student from a local secondary school.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd. Noor, confirmed that preliminary investigations revealed the accused had previously served as the victim's teacher during the boy's primary school education. - June 24, 2026
