KUALA LUMPUR – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has temporarily shut down the power supply to 67 electricity substations in Johor and Pahang due to floods, affecting 5,845 consumers.
In a statement, TNB said at 10am yesterday, 10 substations in Johor have been closed, namely ones in Johor Baru, Kulai, Johor Jaya, Kluang and Kota Tinggi.
It added that 57 substations in Kuantan, Rompin, Maran, Jengka, Jerantut, Bentong, Raub and Kuala Lipis in Pahang have also been shut to safeguard consumers.
The move affects 1,343 users in Johor and 4,502 in Pahang.
“Meanwhile, 18 electrical substations in Johor and three in Pahang received temporary supplies from mobile power sets.
“Efforts to connect temporary supplies in Kuala Lipis and Raub were disrupted, as the floods in the areas have not subsided and landslides blocked the routes.
“TNB always strives to take into account the safety of TNB consumers and employees,” the statement read, adding that the water level of the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, has returned to normal.
“Consumers are advised to be careful when using electrical appliances if their premises are flooded. Avoid touching such appliances or switches with wet and damp hands as it could lead to electrocution.
“After floodwaters recede, consumers are advised to seek the services of a wiring contractor registered with the energy commission to inspect the wiring in their premises.” – Bernama, January 5, 2021
