KUALA LUMPUR – Pothole repairs in Jalan Tengah, where a 75-year-old man died after hitting it and falling off his motorcycle, have been carried out at least nine times since September, said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

In a statement late last night, it said the last time the road was paved or underwent maintenance was on December 26.

“As damage to the road surface happens too often, DBKL has appointed geotechnical consultant Messrs Ikram to study and investigate the cause of the damage.

“DBKL constantly monitors and takes action in repairing potholes by conducting patrols and making immediate patches at locations where roads are damaged.”

The city hall also conveyed its condolences to the senior citizen’s family.

On Sunday, Ho Yan Yee fell and died after his motorcycle hit a pothole in Jalan Tengah, near Mid Valley Megamall.

The city hall said it has various channels for the public to extend complaints related to potholes. Among them include the ISPAAA complaint website, DBKL call centre, Public Complaints Bureau, i-Tegur application, as well as via email, WhatsApp and face-to-face complaints at any DBKL office.

“The cooperation of the public to channel information on road damage, including potholes, through channels stated is highly appreciated,” the statement read.

According to the city hall, the total number of road damage cases, including potholes, recorded last year was 11,979 cases, with all eventually repaired.

Additionally, 7,735 cases were detected through city hall patrols, while 4,244 cases were through public complaints. – The Vibes, January 5, 2021
