THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has carried out Op V380, seizing 6,916 units of uncertified communication equipment valued at approximately RM2.06 million in a nationwide enforcement operation conducted on June 24, 2026.
The operation targeted a company suspected of possessing and selling communication devices that did not comply with technical standards set by the regulator.
Among the items seized were wireless closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, along with computers, printers, mobile phones and WiFi routers used in the alleged distribution activities.
The enforcement action was carried out following intelligence-sharing between MCMC and SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, the accredited certification agency.
A total of 44 officers were involved in simultaneous raids at a warehouse in Klang and a premises in Johor Bahru used as an office and live-streaming studio.
Initial investigations found that the uncertified devices were being marketed and sold via e-commerce platforms, including TikTok Shop and Shopee.
Eight individuals, including company management, warehouse assistants and live-stream hosts, had their statements recorded to assist investigations.
MCMC said the sale and use of uncertified communication equipment may compromise user safety as such devices do not meet required technical standards.
It added that the devices could also affect performance, reliability and potentially disrupt communication networks, impacting service quality nationwide.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which provides for a maximum penalty of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
MCMC said it will continue to intensify enforcement against the sale, distribution and possession for sale of uncertified communication equipment, and advised the public to only purchase certified devices to ensure safety and network reliability. - June 29, 2026
