THE Election Commission (EC) has issued 24,677 postal ballot papers to eligible voters for the 16th Johor state election, marking the start of the postal voting process ahead of polling day on July 11.

SPR secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the issuance of postal ballots was carried out in accordance with Regulation 3 of the Elections (Postal Voting) Regulations 2003.

He said election officials distributed the postal ballots across all 56 state constituencies on Monday.

Of the total, 23,288 ballot papers were issued under Form 1A for election workers, Election Commission members and officers, police personnel, military personnel and accredited media workers.

A further 1,044 postal ballots were issued under Form 1B for Malaysian citizens residing overseas, while another 345 were distributed under Form 1C to eligible agencies and organisations.

Khairul Shahril said the ballot issuance process was conducted in the presence of representatives from all contesting political parties and independent candidates to ensure transparency.

He reminded postal voters to mark their ballot papers correctly and complete the Declaration of Identity Form (Form 2) accurately before returning their ballots to the respective Returning Officer.

The completed postal ballots must reach the relevant Returning Officer no later than 5 pm on polling day, July 11, for them to be counted.

Khairul Shahril also urged postal voters to protect the secrecy of their ballots by refraining from photographing their completed ballot papers or sharing them on social media.

A total of 172 candidates are contesting the Johor state election, with early voting scheduled for July 7 before the main polling day on July 11. - June 30, 2026
