BERSAMA today launched a five-point service agenda for the Johor state election, positioning itself as a constructive opposition committed to strengthening checks and balances rather than seeking to form the next state government.
Party leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said the party had deliberately opted against issuing a traditional election manifesto because Bersama is contesting only 15 state seats and is not in a position to govern Johor.
Instead, he said the five pledges represent a long-term commitment by Bersama candidates to continue serving voters irrespective of the election outcome.
“The first pledge is to be a voice for the people by organising monthly mobile complaint registries and providing a digital platform for the public to submit local and national issues directly to party leadership.
“Bersama candidates also pledge to organise public forums, petitions and campaigns to ensure issues affecting Johor residents receive attention from both the state and federal governments,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.
Rafizi said the second pledge focuses on providing effective checks and balances by proposing practical solutions in collaboration with relevant ministries, departments and agencies, instead of merely criticising government policies.
Housing forms the third pillar of the party's agenda, with Bersama pledging to champion affordable home ownership, protect traditional villages from commercial development pressures and safeguard communities affected by industrial projects. The party also intends to push for improvements to Johor's housing policies to make home ownership more accessible.
Its fourth pledge calls for an integrated public transport system centred on buses to complement the mass rapid transit network currently being developed in Johor Bahru.
The fifth commitment is aimed at strengthening financial oversight by monitoring the performance of the Johor government, statutory bodies and government-linked companies to identify leakages, inefficiencies and wastage of public funds.
Rafizi said the five pledges reflect Bersama's commitment to becoming a functional and credible opposition that continues to serve the people of Johor well beyond the state election campaign. - June 30, 2026
