PAKATAN Harapan communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's statement that non-Malay voters were no longer a "fixed deposit" for DAP proved that there was no longer such a concept in Malaysian politics, including for UMNO itself.
According to him, all parties must strive to gain and maintain the people's trust because support can no longer be considered permanent.
“We cannot take it for granted. We need to not only strive to earn support from the people, but we also need to take care of it. I believe many among the people are hoping for something better.
“Voters must understand that their votes are important and very valuable to determine the future of not only the state, but also the country,” he said after a program with the residents of Kampung Istana today.
Fahmi was also asked about the actions of former UMNO Supreme Council Member (MKT), Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi, who openly expressed support for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Rengit State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat.
Fahmi said the development further strengthened his view that no party can rely on permanent support.
“Following Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s statement, I am of the view that there is no longer a fixed vote or fixed deposit, including for UMNO.
“When Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi issued a statement supporting the PH candidate for Rengit, and previously we saw Bersatu members supporting the PH candidate in Sri Medan, in the coming days, more people may make such statements.
“Pakatan Harapan has its own appeal, and it is proven especially at the Federal level, the leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister has given not only a very good image to the country, but also the revival of our country’s economy, including in the state of Johor.
“So this election is a good opportunity for more people to express their support for PH,” he said. – July 4, 2026
