POLICE have arrested a woman after a video showing two young children protruding through the sunroof of a moving vehicle went viral on social media, prompting investigations into alleged child neglect and reckless conduct.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 6pm yesterday on the Grand Saga Highway near Kampung Batu 10, Cheras, where the vehicle was recorded by another road user.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police detected the video on the Threads application today and had earlier received a police report regarding the incident at 5.28pm yesterday.
He said the investigation is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 for alleged child neglect and Section 336 of the Penal Code for an act endangering the life or personal safety of others through negligence.
"If convicted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001, the offender may be fined up to RM50,000 or imprisoned, while an offence under Section 336 of the Penal Code carries a penalty of up to three months' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both," he said.
Naazron said the suspect, a 30-year-old Malaysian woman and the mother of the two girls aged four and six, voluntarily presented herself at the Kajang District Police Headquarters today before being arrested to assist with the investigation.
"The local woman, aged 30, was later released on police bail after her statement was recorded," he said.
He urged motorists to comply with road traffic laws and prioritise safety at all times, particularly where children are concerned, to prevent incidents that could endanger lives.
Police have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Tharani Sivarajan, on 017-733 1935 to assist with the investigation. - July 5, 2026
