THE teenage girl who stabbed her classmate on Monday near a secondary school in Banting has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment for a month at the Hospital Bahagia, Ulu Kinta, Perak.
The order was issued by Magistrate Maslinda Selamat at the Telok Datok Magistrate's Court, after the charge was read out to the 15-year-old student at the proceedings held at the Children's Court.
However, no plea was recorded after the charge was read out to the accused.
According to the charge, the teenager, who suffers from autism, is charged with attempting to murder a student of her age by using a knife, causing injury.
With the act, she is said to have had the intention to cause death, which was carried out near a secondary school in Bandar Banting, at about 9.50 am.
She was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
The defence lawyer representing the teenager then requested that an assessment of his client's mental health be carried out by a specialist at a psychiatric hospital.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Amirul Syafiq Yazid agreed to an assessment of the accused's mental health.
The magistrate then ordered the teenager to undergo assessment and treatment at the Bahagia Ulu Kinta Hospital for a month. The case was set for mention on August 10.
At the proceedings, the student, who has been on school holidays for the past eight months, was accompanied by her mother.
It was earlier reported that the teenage suspect claimed to be a victim of bullying by her friends, including one of the stabbing victims.
Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Shazeli Kahar, said that the claim was made by the 15-year-old female suspect based on initial investigations.
However, investigations, through statements taken, including 10 student names on a list that went viral on social media, found that it was not due to a bullying incident.
Last Monday, police reportedly arrested a teenage girl in Form Three after allegedly stabbing her classmate at the school in the incident between 9.30 and 10 am.
The teenager was remanded for four days by the Magistrate's Court in Telok Datuk to assist in the investigation. – July 10, 2026
