KUANTAN – A female passenger of an overturned boat incident in Sg Jelai, Kg Bertang in Lipis, 245km from here was found drowned today at 9.45am.

Lipis district police chief Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, Rozi Omar, 52, was found stuck in a banana clump on a riverbank about 100m from the scene.

“Search and rescue efforts for one of the victim’s daughters, who was also reported missing, are ongoing.

“Rozi’s body was taken to the Kuala Lipis Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement here.

Rozi was reported missing with daughter Nur Zakirah Ahmad Hussin, 19, after the boat they were on capsized in Sg Jelai.

The boat which was skippered by her husband, Ahmad Hussin Mad Aris, overturned due to strong currents when they were headed to Kg Betong, to check on the condition of their flooded house.

Also in the boat was another daughter of the couple, Nur Aina, 23, but she and her father Ahmad Hussin, 52, managed to save themselves. – Bernama, January 5, 2021
