KEDAH Menteri Besar’s official residence at Seri Mentaloon, Alor Setar was affected by flood yesterday evening.

Heavy rain has caused floods across the northern and east coast states of the peninsula, with some 120,000 people evacuated so far.

Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s officer Zulkifli Yahaya took to Facebook to share pictures of the two-storey house’s compounds inundated by water.

However, Sanusi and his family are still staying at Seri Mentaloon.

Zulkifli said the compound was inundated early yesterday morning. Water initially entered the staff quarters near the riverbank before flooding the living room, kitchen, and dining area.

“The water level then continued to rise, entering the living room, kitchen, and dining area of the official residence,” he said.

This was not the first time that the Seri Mentaloon residence had flooded. The house was also flooded back in 2010 major floods and last September.

Meanwhile, according to the Info Bencana portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), 119,701 people from 36,032 families are seeking shelter at 697 temporary relief centres (PPS) as of 7am.

The states affected by floods are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka, and Johor.

Of this total, Kelantan recorded the highest number of victims, with 80,241 people from 24,817 families sheltered in 279 PPS across ten districts. - November 30, 2024
