A 36-YEAR-OLD woman died in George Town after the car she was driving crashed into two stationary motorcycles along busy Macalister Road yesterday, with police believing she may have suffered a medical emergency while driving.
Northeast district police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the woman died while receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.
“The accident only involved the driver, while the two motorcycles seen in the viral video were unoccupied and parked by the roadside outside a restaurant. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” he said.
A video of the incident, which occurred at about 2pm on Thursday, went viral on social media, showing the car crashing into the two motorcycles outside a restaurant.
The woman’s husband was subsequently seen rushing to the vehicle and attempting to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on his wife.
Despite his efforts, she could not be revived.
Police said the exact cause of death had yet to be established, although the woman was believed to have suffered a massive heart attack.
The post-mortem examination is expected to determine whether a medical emergency caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
Police Officers Help Rush Collapsed Child To Hospital
In a separate incident, a family in Penang has expressed gratitude to two police officers who helped escort their car through heavy traffic after their child suddenly collapsed at home.
The parents were rushing the unconscious child to Penang Hospital in their family car when they became trapped in congestion near the junction of Jalan Yeap Chor Ee and Jalan Masjid Negeri.
The busy intersection is a known traffic bottleneck during peak hours, leaving the family with limited options as they tried to reach the hospital as quickly as possible.
The parents then approached a police patrol vehicle a few metres ahead and flagged down the officers for assistance.
The family later identified the officers in a social media post as Corporal Siva and Constable Jerico, who are stationed at the George Town district police headquarters.
The officers immediately responded and escorted the family through the congested roads, helping them reach Penang Hospital for emergency treatment.
The child is understood to be in stable condition. - August 14, 2026
