FOR Syahirahsr, getting to work on Friday morning meant getting off a stalled MRT train, finding another mode of transport and accepting that her usual commute was not going to plan.
The passenger was travelling towards Kwasa Damansara when the train stopped at Pavilion Bukit Bintang at about 8.19am.
She said the doors would not close, before the air-conditioning was switched off and the carriage was left in darkness.
“8.19am: stopped at Pavilion Bukit Bintang and the doors wouldn’t close. 8.31am: air-conditioning off and it went dark,” she wrote in a post on Threads.
By 8.35am, passengers were making an emergency exit from the train.
Syahirah said she then took the monorail to KL Sentral before continuing to her office, as long queues formed among commuters waiting to use the MRT.
She also thanked Rapid KL staff who assisted passengers during the evacuation.
Rapid KL later said the Kajang Line was experiencing delays after a train became unable to proceed because of a compressor system problem at Bukit Bintang station.
The affected train was removed from service, while train frequency was adjusted as the operator worked to restore normal service.
The incident came a day after passengers on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line were caught in another disruption, with a train breaking down while travelling between Taman Jaya and Universiti stations.
Passengers were left on the tracks for about 20 minutes before being moved to another train.
One passenger said a loud boom was heard shortly before the train stopped abruptly, causing several people to lose their balance.
Passengers were also seen contacting Rapid KL’s emergency hotline while waiting for assistance.
Rapid KL personnel eventually arrived and helped passengers transfer to another train on the opposite track.
In a post on X, Rapid KL said the Kelana Jaya Line was facing delays after a train stopped because of a power outage at Universiti station.
With two separate incidents affecting the Klang Valley rail network within two days, commuters were again left dealing with delays, crowded platforms and having to find alternative ways to get to work. – August 14, 2026
