KUALA LUMPUR – Malim Nawar assemblyman Leong Cheok Keng will have to face DAP’s disciplinary committee after it was reported he had applied to join MCA.
In a statement today, DAP disciplinary committee chairman Chong Chieng Jen said a letter seeking a response has been issued to Leong today.
“Under DAP's constitution, a DAP member ceases to be one if he becomes a member of another political party. Any act of applying for the membership of another party is deemed a treacherous act to the party.
“DAP's constitution also empowers the disciplinary committee to act against any member whose conduct is detrimental to the interest of the party,” he said.
Yesterday, The Star had reported that Leong, when asked about joining MCA, had said: “Sorry, no comment.”
Meanwhile, DAP’s Pokok Assam assemblyman Leow Thye Yih told the paper that he had no intention of joining MCA, contrary to what was reported in the media.
“Reports in several Chinese newspapers about me and 20 other DAP assemblymen and MPs joining another political party are inaccurate,” he was quoted as saying.
During the recent Perak menteri besar crisis, Leow and Leong had said they were not aware of Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming’s announcement that the party was willing to work with Umno. – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
