POLICE have arrested 13 people, including a 15-year-old girl, to assist investigations into the death of a 17-year-old girl who was killed in a road incident in Kulai on Tuesday.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received information about an accident involving a Perodua Myvi carrying five people, including the victim, at about 12.38am.
“Initial investigations found that the victim and her friends had just finished dinner and were on their way home from Jalan Kenanga, Indahpura, travelling towards their respective homes when the victim’s vehicle was followed by several vehicles, including a black Toyota Vellfire.
“When they reached the Lingkaran Bulatan Persiaran Indahpura 4, the vehicle carrying the victim was believed to have been hit by the Toyota Vellfire, causing the victim, who was seated in the front passenger seat, to be thrown from the vehicle,” he said at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters in Johor Bharu today.
Ab Rahaman said preliminary investigations did not rule out the possibility that the victim was subsequently struck by the Toyota Vellfire before the vehicle fled the scene.
The victim, who was no longer attending school, died at the scene. Her body was subsequently sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“Police initially investigated the case as an accident before classifying it as a murder case following the arrest of all the suspects.
“We also do not rule out the possibility that the incident is linked to a membership dispute between two secret society groups in the Johor Bahru area. However, the motive is still under investigation,” he said.
Following the incident, police conducted several raids in Johor Bahru and Selangor, resulting in the arrest of all 13 suspects, aged between 15 and 31, including the 15-year-old girl who is no longer attending school.
Police also seized 12 mobile phones of various brands, a black Kia Forte, a black Toyota Vellfire, a grey Toyota Hilux, a black baseball bat and a black baton.
“Investigations found that nine of the suspects have previous criminal records, while urine tests on all the suspects were negative for drugs.
“All the suspects were remanded between the day before yesterday and Aug 3 to assist investigations,” he said. - August 28, 2026
