THREE Malaysians reported missing following a landslide at Gyirong Port in China last Wednesday are not additional cases, Wisma Putra said, clarifying that the trio were already included in the 36 Malaysians previously reported as uncontactable in the country.
The Foreign Ministry said the clarification means the number of Malaysians still uncontactable remains at 36 in China and 55 in Nepal.
"Accordingly, the current figures remain at 36 Malaysians who have been reported as still unable to be contacted in China and 55 Malaysians who have been reported as still unable to be contacted in Nepal," it said in a statement today.
The Malaysian embassies in Beijing and Kathmandu are continuing to liaise with authorities and relevant parties in both countries to establish the safety and whereabouts of Malaysians who remain uncontactable.
Wisma Putra said information received from China and Nepal was also being cross-checked to prevent duplication in the reports.
"Since the past few days, the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu has also been providing consular assistance to family members of Malaysians who remain uncontactable and who have travelled to Kathmandu.
"The embassy has provided updates, guidance on local procedures, assisted with arrangements with the relevant Nepalese authorities and, where necessary, accompanied family members to relevant locations in Kathmandu," it said.
Family members have also been advised to comply with all safety instructions issued by the Nepalese authorities.
"The Malaysian Embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing are also continuing to liaise with the respective authorities in Nepal and China to obtain access to areas closer to the affected locations.
"Any movement of Malaysian officials to the affected areas is subject to approval by the relevant authorities, as well as prevailing security conditions and access on the ground," it said.
Wisma Putra also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information as efforts continue to locate and establish contact with the Malaysians. - August 31, 2026
