REDfm presenter Azrani Azmi, better known to listeners as DJ Zack, has died at 47 after he was found unconscious at the RTM Sarawak office on Tuesday night.
Azrani was found by a colleague in a restroom at about 8.40pm before being rushed to Sarawak General Hospital, with emergency assistance administered during the journey.
His death was confirmed by a medical officer at the hospital after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The cause of death has not been determined.
Known to REDfm listeners for his afternoon and late-night broadcasts, Azrani was also a radio producer, voice actor and emcee.
His broadcasting profile listed him as the announcer for the station’s English programmes Midday Mix and After 9.
He also hosted House of Dance, a Saturday night segment that gave local disc jockeys a platform to share their music with listeners.
Over the years, Azrani represented REDfm in broadcasts beyond his regular programmes, including a special link-up with TRAXXfm in conjunction with Sarawak Day in 2022.
He was also involved in a nationwide Face to Face broadcast featuring presenters from REDfm, SabahVfm and LangkawiFM alongside Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil that year.
More recently, he joined Fuad Rahim in presenting daily updates on the 2024 Malaysia Games in Sarawak, bringing coverage of the sporting event to REDfm listeners.
RTM Sarawak also confirmed Azrani’s death, while Sarawak Broadcasting director Wan Wizana Hashim and his deputy, Nurjihan Yahya, were among those who visited the hospital. - September 23, 2026
