DATIN Seri Rosmah Mansor will know on Jan 7 whether the Kuala Lumpur High Court will grant an injunction to freeze assets worth up to US$346 million pending the disposal of a suit brought against her by 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and 10 other companies.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Muhammad Adam@Edward Abdullah fixed the date yesterday to hear and decide 1MDB’s application for a Mareva injunction against Rosmah.
The date was set during case management attended by Rosmah’s lawyer Sheena Stephanie Sebastian and counsel Henna Nikita Sanghvi, who represented 1MDB.
A Mareva injunction is an interim court order preventing a defendant from disposing of or dealing with assets pending the resolution of legal proceedings.
In the case, the plaintiffs are seeking to restrain Rosmah from dealing with assets worth up to US$346 million, including cash, company shares, property and other assets.
The application forms part of a lawsuit concerning luxury goods worth more than US$346 million which the plaintiffs allege were acquired using misappropriated 1MDB funds.
The suit was filed on May 9, 2024 by 1MDB and 10 other companies, including five of its subsidiaries — 1MDB Energy Holdings Limited, 1MDB Energy Limited, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Limited, Global Diversified Investment Company Limited and SRC International Sdn Bhd.
The other plaintiffs are Affinity Equity International Partners Limited, Alsen Chance Holdings Limited, Blackrock Commodities (Global) Limited, Blackstone Asia Real Estate Partners Limited and Brightstone Jewellery Limited.
The plaintiffs are seeking an order requiring Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to pay US$346,010,489 or another amount deemed appropriate by the court.
They are also seeking declarations that the first six plaintiffs are the lawful owners of the luxury goods allegedly held by Rosmah.
The suit was initially filed against Rosmah and Singaporean national Shabnam Naraindas Daswani.
However, the plaintiffs withdrew their claims against Shabnam in April 2025.
On July 9, the same court fixed June next year for the hearing of the main suit. - September 28, 2026
