PAS has ruled out cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Melaka state election but remains open to working with other parties, including using the Barisan Nasional (BN) logo, its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said today.
He said negotiations on seat allocations and political cooperation were still ongoing, with PAS yet to decide the number of seats it would contest or the logo it would use.
“What is important is that Melaka is led by Malay Muslims. We reject Pakatan Harapan,” he told reporters after delivering his Duha lecture at Rusila Mosque in Marang today.
The Melaka Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Sept 23 to pave the way for the state election.
Hadi said negotiations over seat allocations were progressing harmoniously and that the issue would not become a major obstacle.
Asked about the possibility of continuing cooperation with BN amid restrictions on the use of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo, he said PAS could contest under its own emblem if necessary.
“The PAS logo can be used too, there is no problem,” he said, adding that the matter was still being considered.
PAS had previously said it was prepared to consider using the BN logo in the Melaka polls, depending on the outcome of negotiations.
The issue of the PN logo arose after the Registrar of Societies suspended PN’s activities effective Sept 23 under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966.
The suspension followed a notice issued to PN on Sept 22 seeking an explanation over a complaint lodged with the RoS. It was not a decision to deregister the coalition.
Hadi added most BN leaders were agreeable to cooperation with PAS.
Asked about the possibility of BN working with PH, he said it was a matter for BN to decide.
“It is up to BN, but we will work to ensure PH is defeated in the Melaka state election. Most importantly, Melaka should be led by Malay and Muslim leadership,” he said. - October 2, 2026
