A 39-YEAR-OLD woman was killed after being run over by a car while lying in the middle of Sultan Mahmud Bridge in Kuala Terengganu early today.

The woman, who was a person with a mental disability, suffered severe injuries to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1.15am incident.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the driver of a Proton Waja, a 28-year-old man, was travelling home to Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, from Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus, when the incident occurred.

“When he arrived at the location, the driver failed to avoid the woman and ran over her body, which was believed to be lying in the middle of the bridge.

“The woman’s body was sent to the forensic unit at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for further action,” he said here today.

Azli said the driver was uninjured and the vehicle also suffered no damage. - October 2, 2026
