FOUR locations across Malaysia registered unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 7:00 AM today, with two affected areas situated in Sarawak and two in Johor.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Sri Aman in Sarawak recorded the highest reading nationwide at 151, followed by Pasir Gudang in Johor at 135, Serian Police Headquarters in Sarawak at 120, and Larkin in Johor at 106.
API readings between 101 and 200 fall into the unhealthy category, posing health risks to sensitive groups and the general public during prolonged outdoor exposure.
Meanwhile, 61 air monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate API levels.
Among the locations registering the highest moderate readings were Bintulu and Samarahan in Sarawak, both at 91, followed by Kuching at 89, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur at 87, Tawau in Sabah at 83, as well as Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur, Batu Pahat, and Pengerang in Johor, each recording 81.
Several other areas registering moderate air quality included Kapit at 80, Nilai and Sibu at 79, Sarikei at 78, and Putrajaya and Kluang both at 75.
In the Klang Valley, moderate API levels were noted in Shah Alam, Johan Setia, and Kota Tinggi at 72 each, followed by Klang and Banting at 66, Petaling Jaya at 64, and Kuala Selangor at 59.
Conversely, only two areas recorded good air quality: Taiping in Perak with a reading of 48, and Temerloh in Pahang with 42.
An API reading between zero and 50 is categorized as good, while readings from 51 to 100 represent moderate air quality.
Members of the public, particularly those residing in affected areas, are advised to reduce unnecessary outdoor activities, monitor ongoing air quality updates, and take appropriate health precautions. - October 3, 2026
