Seremban records Malaysia’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 187 this morning - October 9, 2026

A TOTAL of 38 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy air quality this morning, with Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 187.

Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Negeri Sembilan was among the worst-affected states, with Nilai recording an API of 184 and Port Dickson 173.

Johor also reported elevated readings, with Segamat at 183, Tangkak at 180, Pasir Gudang at 176, Kluang at 175, Batu Pahat and Larkin at 169 each, Pengerang at 167 and Kota Tinggi at 162.

In Melaka, both Melaka City and Bukit Rambai recorded readings of 182, while Alor Gajah registered 177.

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded an API of 182, followed by Shah Alam at 177, Petaling Jaya at 169, Klang and Banting at 168 each, and Kuala Selangor at 123.

The haze also affected the Federal Territories, with Batu Muda recording 172, Cheras 170 and Putrajaya 171.

In Perak, Tasek Ipoh registered 174, followed by Tanjung Malim at 171, Pegoh Ipoh at 169, Seri Manjung at 158 and Taiping at 130.

Several areas in Pahang also recorded unhealthy readings, including Rompin at 170, Indera Mahkota in Kuantan at 162, Temerloh at 154 and Balok Baru in Kuantan at 152.

In the northern peninsula, Sungai Petani recorded 157 and Alor Setar 151 in Kedah. In Penang, Minden registered 153, Seberang Jaya 151 and Seberang Perai 122.

Kemaman in Terengganu recorded an API of 154.

Meanwhile, all monitoring stations in Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Kelantan, as well as some areas in Terengganu, remained within the moderate range.

Under APIMS classifications, API readings of 101 to 200 are considered unhealthy, while readings of 51 to 100 indicate moderate air quality.

The public, particularly children, older people and those with respiratory conditions, are advised to reduce outdoor activities and take appropriate health precautions while the haze persists. - October 9, 2026
