POLICE have seized drugs worth an estimated RM5.6 million and arrested three men over an alleged distribution network that used shopping centre car parks across the Klang Valley as handover points.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operation, codenamed Op Tongkol, was conducted on Oct 1 and involved four raids across Selangor.
The seizures comprised 111.7kg of methamphetamine and 0.4kg of heroin.
“The syndicate is believed to have been active since July.
“Its modus operandi was to transport drug supplies in cars and use shopping centre car parks around the Klang Valley as locations to hand over drugs to recipients,” he said at a recent press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.
The three local suspects, aged between 35 and 49, were remanded for 14 days from Oct 2 to Oct 15 to assist investigations.
Hussein said background checks found that the third suspect had a previous drug-related conviction.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
He said the department would intensify targeted operations to dismantle drug distribution networks nationwide.
“All forms of drug-related criminal activity will be combated relentlessly until the syndicate networks are completely dismantled.
“The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department is committed to fighting drugs to protect present and future generations. Drugs are the country’s number one enemy,” he said.
