POLICE have recorded statements from nine people, including a 56-year-old school principal, in an investigation into alleged sexual harassment involving a Form Three girl in Bagan Datuk.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the investigation began after the student's mother lodged a police report on Oct 24.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Mohd Alwi said preliminary information indicated that the student's family had confronted the principal following allegations that he had contacted the girl to express feelings of love and affection towards her.
In a related development, the principal lodged a separate police report on Oct 25 over his dissatisfaction with a video about the case that went viral on social media.
Police are investigating the related matter under Section 238 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Mohd Alwi said police would conduct a detailed investigation into both matters, particularly as the case involved a public servant.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek had earlier directed the Perak State Education Department to investigate the allegations. The principal has been temporarily assigned to the Bagan Datuk District Education Office pending the department's investigation. - October 27, 2026
