KUCHING – Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has yet to comment on the Covid-19 resurgence in Sarawak, said Batu Kitang DAP chairman Abdul Aziz Isa.

Aziz told The Vibes that Aaron Ago’s last public appearance was in December last year, when he announced that the federal government will build a new hospital at Puncak Borneo.

“Since then, there has been no news of him. Even now, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Aaron Ago has yet to comment on the state’s current situation.

“It is rather perplexing as to why Aaron Ago seems to have gone off the radar. As a deputy health minister, he should be issuing statements on the state’s pandemic situation and ensure that the public remains calm.

“Aaron Ago’s Kanowit parliamentary seat is just next to the Lanang and Sibu constituencies. Therefore, the public expects him, as a deputy health minister, to show some interest and concern for the people.”

Aziz said if Aaron Ago is unable to perform his duty as deputy health minister, it is better for him to relinquish his position.

Just last week the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee reported 37 Covid-19 cases in Sibu (Pasai Siong cluster), and declared the district a red zone.

On Monday, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting had cautioned the public that there will be more infections after checking with the Sibu Health Department.

Aziz said Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngilai had on Monday tightened standard operating procedures for public places under its jurisdiction, following the Pasai Siong cluster.

“It seems like Ting and Sempurai are the only politicians calming the public.”

Aaron Ago was appointed deputy health minister on March 21, 2004. He has been Kanowit MP since 2004. – The Vibes, January 13, 2021
