KUANTAN – There should be no questioning the validity of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) victory in yesterday’s Sabah election despite the alliance being unregistered, said Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
The communications and multimedia minister said GRS, which took 38 state seats, comprises registered parties from Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional, as well as Parti Bersatu Sabah.
“The situation is similar to when Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election. At the time, PH was not yet registered, and its candidates contested on the PKR ticket.
“So, there is no difference between GRS and PH... The GRS candidates contested on the tickets of registered parties.
“It’s an election strategy,” he told reporters here today.
He was responding to some quarters’ claims that GRS did not actually win the polls as the pact has yet to be registered.
The Election Commission last night announced that GRS won 38 of Sabah’s 73 state seats, while the Warisan Plus alliance, consisting of Parti Warisan Sabah, DAP, Amanah, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation and PKR, took 32 seats.
The remaining three seats were won by independents.
Saifuddin added that he is confident GRS will soon determine who among its leaders becomes chief minister. – Bernama, September 27, 2020
