KUALA LUMPUR – Sellers of vape liquids containing what is suspected to be synthetic marijuana have taken their business to social media platforms, with many flocking to Facebook, in particular.

A check by The Vibes found dozens of posts offering such products by brands including The King of Chill for sale.

One post published last month was by a seller promoting these liquids, also known as vape juice, for RM220 a bottle.

“Discounts available for purchases above three bottles.”

Another seller said their products will be delivered via the J&T Express and Lalamove courier services.

Yet another Facebook page said The King of Chill vape liquids it sells are from the United States.

“This product is not synthetic. It is 100% naturally organic.”

A visit to The King of Chill’s website, however, showed a Vietnamese, not US, contact number.

“Our products are available in many countries of the world, such as Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa, the US, Canada, Mexico, Czech Republic, Nordic + Iceland, Germany, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK,” said the site.

“The product is a perfect combination of some active ingredients in medical marijuana, 100% natural extracts along with small doses of some shikigami, legal stimulation taken from famous medical centres of America, (and) is recognised by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to help users feel comfortable, eat well at night, have fun, relax, have great feelings with friends during weekend parties, or at the end of the day.”

It is not determined whether the liquids contain actual or synthetic cannabinoids.

According to a CNBC report, investigations have found that some manufacturers lie about the contents of their vape liquids.

Synthetic cannabinoids are said to impart properties that are similar to the real deal, but can lead to serious health issues, and in some cases, death.

Social media sites are not the only places where these products are sold – they retail for RM200 a bottle on a popular online shopping platform. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
