MIRI – Sibu authorities will use drones to carry out aerial surveillance, complementing ground enforcement, after the division was placed under the movement control order.
Sarawak Housing and Local Government Assistant Minister Annuar Rapaee said police and the army will also mobilise drones over Kanowit and Selangau districts.
“The drones will provide aerial footage to assist enforcement units patrolling on the ground.
“The public must cooperate with the authorities to stop the spread of Covid-19. The next two weeks will be very crucial,” he said today.
The Nangka assemblyman said residents have to comply with all health directives, including wearing masks, using hand sanitiser, and not holding gatherings.
Sibu Hospital recorded 524 Covid-19 patients as of yesterday.
The district has a population of about 200,000, while Kanowit and Selangau have a combined population of some 100,000. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
