KOTA KINABALU – Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s activation of a disaster operations control centre here is a precautionary measure against extended bad weather, said city mayor Noorliza Awang Alip.
She said the centre’s activation is part of regular procedure, to enable the authorities to coordinate in the event of an emergency.
“This is to ensure that everyone is on standby in case there are any incidents,” she said, adding that the city hall received 25 reports from the public yesterday.
“With this centre, we are able to coordinate our efforts with the police, Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, and the army, rather than acting individually.”
DBKK had earlier issued a notice today announcing the activation of the control centre to handle public complaints on natural disasters.
The notice said a temporary evacuation centre has also been set up in the Likas multipurpose hall to house flood victims.

Several districts in the west coast have been affected by floods following heavy rains recently.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department today issued a bad weather warning for the west coast and interior areas that include Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan.
The heavy rain is expected to continue until tomorrow in Kudat, Telupid, Beluran, and Sandakan. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
