KUALA LUMPUR – A Twitter row over the operating hours of food outlets in the ongoing movement control order (MCO) has triggered the #SiBodohKauDengarSini (Listen here, you idiot) hashtag among Malaysians, who are using it to vent their rage over everything from politicians to struggles during the pandemic.
Trending at almost 57,000 tweets, the hashtag first appeared on Sunday after Twitter user @yarafaee_ responded angrily to a suggestion by @puterirajaawan, who suggested that people should not complain about the current predicament and suggested reheating the food they eat.
User @yarafaee_ then tweeted, "Si bodoh, kau dengar sini" before proceeding to respond.
"People do not have time to cook after getting back from work because we need to get up early for work again the next morning," she said.
Food-delivery services, she tweeted further, need to fulfil many orders within a short window.
Her rant gained more than 13,300 retweets and 22,900 "likes" within a day.

Many Twitter users then co-opted her opening line, as a hashtag, which has risen to become the most trending hashtag in Malaysia.
Twitter user @iamfateenlee tweeted: "Never have I ever stan a more powerful hashtag than this one #SiBodohKauDengarSini."
The hashtag is now also being used to criticise politicians.
User @TheChekMad retweeted the orginal post by @yarafaee_, tweeting: "It’s good to see many people use this trendy #SiBodohKauDengarSini to call out the useless Ministers, politicians & government policies/rulings.
"Hope this hashtag last forever! Sis, thank you for speaking up!! Raised fist."
Another user, @blowupdumpling tweeted: "#SiBodohKauDengarSini trending no 1 resulted from the gov (government) messing with hungry rakyat. Why would you mess with hungry people really???"
Even Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was not spared as users criticised his administration for its failure to handle the pandemic effectively.
Twitter user @TKThiagarajah tweeted: "A sentence to capture how a nation feels about Muhyiddin government and its apologists and also those responsible for its formation (I hope)."
"#SiBodohKauDengarSini says it all! Love it!"
The latest MCO, which applied initially to the Federal Territories and five states before expanding to six states, came into effect last Wednesday and will go on until January 26, with the possibility of an extension.
