KUALA LUMPUR – News of Covid-stricken Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s deteriorating condition have been rubbished as nothing but mere rumour and exaggeration.
The Home Ministry today issued a statement denying that Hamzah’s condition is in a downward spiral, confirming instead that he is in stable condition.
“Hamzah Zainudin is undergoing treatment and quarantine at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and his health is in stable condition.
“The Home Minister’s office requests that everyone prays for his recovery.
“Any official developments regarding the minister’s condition will be issued by the Home Minister’s Office,” said the statement.
A source from his office had also told The Vibes earlier that the reports are incorrect and that Hamzah is in stable condition.
“The rumours are inaccurate. Hamzah is still being treated and the hospital reported that he is in a stable condition,” said the source, who requested anonymity.
In a Facebook post today, Hamizura Osman had uploaded a post urging the people to pray for Hamzah’s recovery, saying his health has deteriorated and that he has been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU).
It is understood that Hamizura is the younger sister of former Bersatu vice-president Datuk Hamidah Osman.
Hamidah herself had also posted a similar message but deleted the post minutes after it was uploaded.
It was announced that Hamzah had tested positive for Covid-19 on January 12.
A second anonymous source told The Vibes that Hamzah does require a ventilator for breathing assistance, but is recovering from the virus.
