KUALA LUMPUR – In addition to modern medical treatment, the government should consider Islamic medical practices as alternative treatment for Covid-19, said Guchil assemblyman Hilmi Abdullah.
Hilmi, who is also Kelantan’s local government and health deputy state executive councillor and an Islamic medical practitioner with DarusSalam Islamic Medical Association Malaysia (DarusSalam), said the proposal was put forward to jointly aid the Health Ministry (MoH) to address and treat the growing number of Covid-19 patients in the country.
“As contained in the Holy Al-Quran, the Quran is a miracle and can be a cure for disease. So in addition to using modern treatments, we can also try to use Islamic medical methods.
“In our opinion, with permission from and strict monitoring by MoH, selected Covid-19 patients will be given a holy water antidote which is recited by ruqyah verses by practitioners and bathed with bidara water for a certain period and time. Comparisons should be made scientifically before, during and after treatment.
“With the help of MoH experts, a study can be conducted to assess the level of change shown by the patients involved. Patients however must consume their modern medicines regularly,” he said after officiating the convocation ceremony for the DarusSalam Islamic medical degree to 59 graduates in Bachok, Kelantan, yesterday.
Sinar Harian reported that Hilmi said this method may not help as much to deal with the spread of Covid-19 in this country.
However, he also said that it is not wrong to try it either because the combination of Islamic and modern medicine can sometimes treat what seems to be an incurable disease.
He said, if allowed by MoH, DarusSalam medical practitioners are ready to work with the ministry and scientists according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) outlined by the government.
Meanwhile, DarusSalam Malaysia chairman Abdul Manaf Jusoh said treatments under DarusSalam must be in line with current SOPs in an effort to break the Covid-19 chain that has hit the country.
The DarusSalam Islamic Medical Centre was founded by the late PAS assemblyman and preacher Datuk Ismail Kamus in 2003 and has since branched its treatment centres in several states, namely Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Johor, Negeri Sembilan. – The Vibes, January 27, 2021
