KUALA LUMPUR – The number of new daily cases breached the 4,000 mark again today, with the Health Ministry adding that 10 new deaths were recorded as well.
The 4,094 new infections today bring the cumulative infections in the country to 198,208, while the death toll stands at 717.
The country also registered 3,281 recoveries, bringing total recoveries to 154,299.
The ministry said that of the new cases, just eight were imported, while total active cases stood at 43,192.
It said 303 cases were currently under intensive care and 118 requiring intubation.
Selangor is again the state with the highest number of cases at 1,577. After yesterday’s high of 1,069, Johor dropped to second spot with 717 cases.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur has 678 cases, followed by Sabah (282), Sarawak (171), Penang (99), Perak (94), Kedah (92), Terengganu (80), Melaka (73), Pahang (72), Labuan (55), Putrajaya (10) and Perlis (9).
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement that 27 cases reported today were related to detention centres – the Tembok Mempaga cluster (11 cases), Jalan Sg Jelok cluster (5), Seberang Perai prison (4), Jalan Harapan Prison (2), DTI Sepang 2 (2), Tembok Bukit Besi (2) and Tembok Sg Udang (1).
Of the deaths today, there were 3 each in Selangor and Sabah, 2 in Kuala Lumpur, and 1 each in Kedah and Sarawak. Of the total, 9 are Malaysians and 1 was a non-citizen.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has recorded a total of 779 clusters, including 9 new ones today.
3 of the new clusters today – Jalan Faizal, Jalan Satria and Jalan Dewani Satu – are workplace clusters in Johor.
He said the Peramu Jaya Industry cluster in Pahang and Taman Mahkota Impian cluster in Labuan are also workplace clusters.
He added the Jalan Pakat cluster in Selangor, the Indiah Riang cluster in Sarawak, and Kg Kemansur cluster in Pahang are community clusters.
Finally, the Jalan Kejora cluster in Melaka, he said, is a high-risk group cluster.
Meanwhile, active clusters stood at 372, of which 89 saw additional cases. The clusters with the highest new cases are the Hentian cluster (88 cases), Pasai (73) and 45 cases each in Jalan Faizal and Jalan Playar.
Some 407 clusters have ended, including 3 today which are the Putra 15, Batu Besar and Kupi-Lupi clusters.– The Vibes, January 28, 2021
