LABUAN – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency has detained an offshore support vessel for anchoring without permission at 0.5 nautical miles southeast of Manjarasa here.
Its Labuan director, Nudin Jusoh, said the vessel – operated by a crew of 15, including the captain – was detained at around 9.50am yesterday during Ops Khas Bersama.
He said the operation targets commercial ships, especially trading ships and offshore support vessels.
During an inspection of the ship, the captain failed to provide any authorisation document to anchor from the Malaysian Marine Department director.
The case will be investigated under Section 419B of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for anchoring without permission, which provides for a fine of not more than RM100,000, or up to two years’ jail, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, January 29, 2021
