MELAKA – A woman suspected of having abused her son, resulting in the 7-year-old’s death in Taman Krubong Jaya here on Friday, is not a “mental patient”, said police.
However, she did receive psychiatric treatment in 2019.
State Criminal Investigation Department head Mohd Sukri Kaman said the 32-year-old received “normal” psychiatric treatment at Melaka Hospital, and is not a mental patient as claimed by some.
“Police did not get any report on the suspect having mental problems, nor was she given the card issued to mental patients.
“She has never been treated at a mental hospital,” he told Bernama today.
The woman and her husband, 38, have been remanded for seven days, starting yesterday, to facilitate the probe into the child’s death.
The victim allegedly drowned in a tub at home in the 4pm incident, but preliminary investigations found injuries on his body.
The body was taken to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – Bernama, January 31, 2021
