KUALA LUMPUR – Due to a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in Johor, Simpang Renggam Prison and its staff quarters will be put under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow until February 14.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said the Health Ministry has detected 108 virus cases involving 100 detainees, six staff members and two close contacts, following a mass preliminary testing of 198 individuals.
He said the EMCO is to curb the spread of the virus to other inmates, employees and their family members, as well as nearby communities.
A surge in virus cases in Sarawak also saw the MCO being imposed on the Kapit and Song districts, both former green zones, from February 2 until 15.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s enforcement division has conducted daily monitoring on 11 types of supplies at 693 business premises, including retailers (509 premises), wholesalers (155) and manufacturers (29).
The division also conducted 1,316 inspections on MCO standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance, and found that 1,295 premises adhered to SOPs, 15 were advised to improve, four received warnings, and two, compounded.
Ismail Sabri said Ops Benteng, held to curb illegal entry at Malaysian borders, rounded up 40 undocumented migrants, and seized one vehicle and one boat, yesterday.
As of yesterday, 36 sanitation operations – in 36 red zones, two orange zones and four yellow zones – were carried out nationwide.
A total of 578 individuals were arrested and issued compounds yesterday for flouting SOPs, with the top offence being failure to maintain social distancing (108 cases). – The Vibes, January 31, 2021
