KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia continues to register more than 5,000 Covid-19 daily infections, as the Health Ministry announced 5,298 new cases today.
Additionally, the ministry also reported 14 new deaths, bringing the toll to 760.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections at 2,460 today, followed by Johor (1,020) and Kuala Lumpur (783).
Sabah is still exceeding 200 daily cases with 298 today. It is followed by Melaka (153) and Sarawak (135).
States with less than 100 daily cases are Terengganu (83), Pahang (74), Penang (69), Perak (63), Kedah (53), Negri Sembilan (42), Kelantan (30), Labuan (24), Putrajaya (6) and Perlis (5).
With the new infections, the country has registered a total of 214,959 cases of which 48,150 are active.
Also, 313 patients remain in intensive care while 127 require ventilators.
Meanwhile, 392 clusters still remain active, including 10 new ones identified by the ministry today.
Four of the new clusters involved Johor, while Selangor and Perak have two each.
Kuala Lumpur and Melaka each have one cluster today.
The Jalan Kewajipan and Persiaran Sabah clusters involve the district of Petaling. After a targeted screening of a factory in Jalan Kewajipan, 125 infections were recorded. Meanwhile a screening of factory workers in Persiaran Sabah found 44 cases out of 440 individuals tested.
There are three clusters in Johor Baru alone – Jalan Ithnin, Jalan Mega and Sri Plentong.
The Jalan Ithnin cluster originated from an elderly home where 67 infections were recorded while Jalan Mega and Sri Plentong are workplace clusters with 29 and 19 cases, respectively.
The Jalan Rami Tiga cluster in Muar, Johor was recorded after targeted screening on a factory where 47 individuals tested positive.
Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Chulan construction site cluster recorded 151 cases after testing 562 individuals.
The Jalan Masjid Tanah cluster in Alor Gajah, Melaka came after a targeted screening of a factory where 69 infections were recorded.
The Jalan Tronoh cluster concerns a residential area in Bota, Perak. After screening 87 individuals, 23 were found positive.
Lastly, the Bercham Raya cluster involves high-risk individuals in Kinta and Kuala Kangsar, Perak where 11 individuals tested positive. – The Vibes, January 31, 2021
