KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 4,284 fresh cases of Covid-19 today and 18 deaths, the Health Ministry said.
The new infections bring the cumulative number to 226,912 cases and the death toll to 809.
The country also saw 3,804 recoveries, bringing the total to 177,794 discharged.
Six of the new cases today are imported.
Of the active cases, 307 are under intensive care, while 141 required intubation.
Selangor logged the highest number of cases with 1,572 infections, followed by Johor (964), Kuala Lumpur (651), Sabah (190) and Sarawak (148).
Negri Sembilan saw 133 cases, followed by Kedah (124), Penang (122), Perak (106), Pahang (66), Kelantan (65) and Melaka (53).
Terengganu recorded 55 cases, followed by Labuan (21) and Putrajaya (14). Perlis is the only state to have no news cases today.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that 122 cases today were related to clusters detention centres throughout the country.
They were recorded in the Tembok Mempaga cluster (54 cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (41), Tembok Bukit Besi cluster (14), Tembok Sg Udang cluster (5), Seberang Prai Prison cluster (4), Tembok Taiping cluster (2), Jalan Harapan Prison (1) and the Sepang immigration depot cluster (1).
He added that the deaths today involved five in Selangor, three each in Sarawak and Negri Sembilan, two cases in Perak, and one case each in Melaka, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Sabah. All the victims were Malaysians except for one non-citizen.
The country has recorded 851 clusters so far, including the 13 new ones today. A total of 439 clusters have ended, including five today – Ikan Emas, Awan Lembah construction site, Tenun Merah, Sugud and Gerbang Pongsu.
He said 12 of the 13 new clusters are workplace clusters, including three in Sabah, Selangor (two), Johor (two), Kuala Lumpur (two), Pahang (one), Putrajaya (one), and Pulau Pinang (one), while another cluster in Kelantan is at a detention centre.
He added that in Selangor the new clusters consisted of the Jalan City cluster in Sepang (48 cases), and the Jalan Aman cluster in Hulu Selangor (38).
In Johor, the ministry recorded the Jalan Pulai 55 cluster in Johor Baru with 42 cases, and the Batu Tiga Setengah cluster in Batu Pahat with 19 cases.
Kuala Lumpur logged the Taman Koperasi cluster in Kepong with 15 cases, as well as the Kandi Singai Besi cluster with 10 cases.
In Sabah, the three new clusters are the Ladang Tangkarason cluster in Beluran with 16 cases, Bandar Lama cluster in Tawau (24), and the Jalan Satu KKIP cluster in Tuaran (30).
Dr Noor Hisham also said Penang has the Mayang Pasir cluster in Seberang Prai with 47 cases, while Pahang detected a Lebuh Karak cluster in Bentong with eight cases.
These are followed by the Presint Tujuh cluster in Putrajaya with nine cases, and the Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster in Kota Baru, Kelantan where 76 cases were recorded. – The Vibes, February 3, 2021
