KOTA KINABALU – A Sabah PKR leader hit out at the preferential treatment given to ministers, who now only have to undergo a three-day quarantine after returning from an overseas trip.
Party information chief Razeef Rakimin said the new ruling must be revised and the federal government must eventually extend the same ruling to ordinary civilians.
“Although the health minister had decided to extend it to all, this does not mean ministers can do whatever they want.
“They might be ministers but they cannot simply defy the advice of the health director-general (Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdulah) who is the professional in charge of addressing the Covid-19 pandemic in the country,” he said in a statement here today.
Razeef said it is not right for the health minister to use his executive powers to exempt ministers from undergoing the full 10-day quarantine.
“Leaders should be examples to the people. There are many who will flout the health standard operating procedures if ministers are also allowed to break the rules. Their actions will confuse other Malaysians,” he said.
Razeef said the same ruling should be applied to all.
“The government should not practise double standards, regardless of whether they are ministers and VIPs, or the ordinary people.” – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
