KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 3,384 fresh Covid-19 infections today, while deaths remained in the double-digits at 13, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The new cases bring the nation’s overall caseload to 254,988 and death toll to 936.
The number of recoveries today, however, outpaced new infections at 3,774, bringing the total discharged to 202,269.
Of today’s new cases, 15 are imported. More than half, or 1,954 cases, involved locals, while 1,415 are foreigners.
Dr Noor Hisham said 259 active cases are under intensive care, with 122 requiring intubation.
Selangor continues to record the highest number of infections at 1,082, followed by Johor (777), Kuala Lumpur (435), Kedah (228), Sarawak (184), Penang (144) and Sabah (142).
Melaka saw 101 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (89), Perak (82), Kelantan (48), Terengganu (26), Pahang (21), Labuan (14), Putrajaya (seven) and Perlis (four).
Dr Noor Hisham said 93 of the new cases today are related to clusters in prisons. They are the Sg Udang cluster (35 cases), Tembok Taiping cluster (24), Tembok Bendera cluster (14), Bukit Besi cluster (11), Penjara Seberang Perai (six), Tembok Renggam (two) and Tembok Mempaga (one).
He said Selangor and Sabah have three deaths each, while Johor and Terengganu have two deaths each. Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak have one fatality each.
So far, the country has recorded a total of 948 clusters, including 17 new clusters today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 471 clusters have ended, including six today, which are the Kg Pitas, Bina Permai construction site, Keladi, Jalan Nakhoda, Tembok Choh and Langit Selatan clusters.
He said 85 of the 477 active clusters saw new infections, with the highest being the Perdana (155 cases) cluster, Jalan Air Hitam (108) cluster and Tanjung Suria (101 cases) cluster.
He said 13 of today’s 17 new clusters are workplace clusters, two are community clusters and another sole cluster is from a detention centre.
In Selangor, the Health Ministry has detected the Lembah Subang construction site cluster in the Petaling district with 28 cases, followed by the Subang Delima cluster in the same district with 15, and the Jalan Bukit Sentosa cluster in Hulu Selangor with 14.
Kuala Lumpur recorded three major clusters in Lembah Pantai district. They are the Jalan Berhala (21 cases), Jalan Telawi (21) and Bukit Angkasa (20) clusters.
Johor recorded four clusters, consisting of the Jalan Perindustrian Getah cluster in Kulai and Kota Tinggi with 102 cases, Jalan Raja Muar cluster with 59, Jalan Gemilang Lima cluster in Johor Baru with 42, and Jalan Bakawali Ramun cluster in Kota Tinggi with eight.
Perak recorded the Tembok Bendera cluster in Batang Padang and Kinta with 21 cases, while Sarawak saw the Nanga Lijan cluster in Julau with 23 cases.
Kedah recorded the Perdana cluster in Kuala Muda with 233 cases, and the Dedap cluster in Yan with 11, while Melaka logged the Jalan Bukit Baru cluster in central Melaka with 11 cases. – The Vibes, February 11, 2021
