KUALA LUMPUR – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Simpang Renggam Prison and its staff quarters will end on February 14.
The EMCO will, however, be implemented in Batu Gajah, Perak, and in three villages in Besut, Terengganu.
In his daily Covid-19 update, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that in Simpang Renggam, the Health Ministry screened 476 people, of which 294 individuals tested positive.
“The Health Ministry also reported that the Covid-19 infection trend in this prison has gone down and is under control, with the last two cases recorded on February 11,” he said.
“After conducting risk assessment with multiple agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and based on advice from the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to end the EMCO at the Simpang Renggam Prison and Staff Quarters on February 14, according to schedule.”
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry – having screened 81 people at the Pusat Pemulihan Akhlak (PPA) Batu Gajah and its staff quarters – found 29 positive cases, with another 45 pending test results.
Over in Terengganu, the ministry found 21 Covid-19 cases after conducting 570 screenings at Kg Darau-Awek, Kg Padang Balong and Kg Lepan Kejor in Mukim Pasir Akar in Besut.
The EMCO will be implemented at all four locations in Perak and Terengganu from February 14 to 27.
No one will be allowed in or out of the four localities and the EMCO is expected to affect 2,152 residents in Besut. – The Vibes, February 12, 2021
