KOTA KINABALU – For the first time in months, Sabah’s Covid-19 daily cases dropped to double digits.
Amid hopes new infections in the state are declining steadily, a report released by the Sabah Health Department to the state Covid-19 secretariat, put today’s new cases at 97, down 19 from yesterday.
“The total cumulative number of cases since the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic last year has reached 51,429 cases.
“One death was reported today in the district of Keningau,” the secretariat said in a statement here.
Overall, 170 patients have been discharged and 49,538 recoveries have been recorded since the first infection was detected in March last year.
Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun told The Vibes yesterday that 17 Sabah districts remain red zones, adding that alert level would be lifted if new cases slide further within the next two weeks.
It has been nine days since most of Sabah’s 25 districts began to record new cases under the 40-mark, the cap at which a district is declared a red zone.
At present, 964 people are still undergoing treatment for the virus in the state – 387 in hospitals, 573 in low-risk self isolation wards, three in detention centres or jails across Sabah.
“Sixty-two are in the intensive care unit and 19 on ventilators,” Masidi said.
The state continued its recent trend of not recording new clusters, as compliance to public health rules was at over 90% in all Sabah districts. – The Vibes, February 15, 2021
